The Mental Health Clinical Specialist is a fully qualified professional role within the Behavioral Health Division, providing clinical mental health services in a correctional environment. Services are delivered to adults, older adults, and other assigned populations with serious mental illness or emotional disturbance.
Assignments may include inpatient psychiatric units, outpatient mental health services, crisis intervention, and criminal justice mental health programs. Supervision is provided by a Mental Health Program Supervisor or Manager.
Male preferred for this setting per manager.
Minimum RequirementsLicensed Providers:
- LCSW
- LMFT
- LPCC
- Psychologist (California licensed)
OR Registered Associates (Supervision Provided):
- ACSW
- AMFT
- APCC
Experience (Strongly Preferred):
- 1+ year in a jail or correctional setting
- Crisis teams or intensive inpatient psychiatric facilities
Additional Requirements:
- Valid California Driver’s License
- New max‑security wing opening May 3
- Direct supervision, co‑educational facility
- Capacity of up to 1,096 inmates
- Comprehensive education, vocational, and rehabilitation programming
- Initial training conducted at Martinez location
- First 3 days completed during day shift hours (including NOC staff)
- Mandatory Civilian Training: Apr 8 (required for unescorted facility access)
